Thursday March 11, 2010 · Book design: Plans
I’d never designed a book cover before, but when Natalie asked if I could design the front and back for her latest book Plans, I thought, “Hey, why not?” So I gave it a shot.
It’s always the first few tries that are tricky, because you’re trying to imagine the most appealing look for it. Then, at the very last minute, it hits you and you do a complete overhaul, and a look comes out. Natalie was plenty pleased with it, so I’m happy!
The design was completed in January. I’ve just gotten my very own copy of Plans, and man, even I’m impressed!

Monday November 30, 2009 · New site design!
Happy Monday! There’s a new site design, so head on over and check it out! I spent the whole of yesterday designing and putting it up, so I’m beat. I had also Ustreamed the inking process of the site girl images you see there, so viewers got to see me complete them live.
I still have yet to go through the art archives in full to make sure they look okay, so please bear with me! There’s a lot of them. Obviously, let me know if anything looks really wonky, and I’ll look into it. Also let me know about any readability issues.
It’s going to be December tomorrow. That’s just so wild.

Hi guys!· announcements · Explosion of Skin comments?
Tuesday August 11, 2009 · State of Lynn, August 09
It’s been really quiet here, hasn’t it? Well, actually, much has been going on behind the scenes! For one thing, I went to Germany and Austria for the first two weeks of July. Boy, did we do a lot of walking. It did rain, which I hear is actually typical July weather for Bavaria, but even so, it was gorgeous. Witness:

Oh my gosh, don’t even get me started on the chocolate there. Delicious.
I’ve also been at work hosting and editing the Girlamatic podcast. I came up with the idea of a podcast, the editor was enthusiastic over it, and off we went! Right now the first episode is up, and I’m currently working on editing the second one before it goes live. Whoever thought mixing sounds could be so much fun?
I’ve also been entertaining out-of-town guests, and let me say that there’s nothing like using your friends to learn more about your own city. It’s the perfect excuse!
Not only that, I’m currently a few pages in on a short-story comic which will give you some insight as to why I hadn’t been able to produce artwork for a couple of months. Suffice to say, one of the very compelling reasons for this was because I literally couldn’t even bend my fingers. If that doesn’t pique your interest, well, then, I’m a truly gone case. I’ll be posting pages of that comic in the next few weeks.
And that’s what’s been happening with me. Hope you folks have been having an excellent summer!

Wednesday January 9, 2008 · Drawing sketch cards for Upper Deck's Marvel Masterpieces II!
I guess it’s safe to let the cat out of the bag!
I will be doing sketch cards for Upper Deck’s Marvel Masterpieces II collection, and I’m very excited about it! The cards will ship to us this week, and I’m set to do 50 for them. I can’t wait!
I’ll definitely show you scans of some of them as I go along. Whoo!
Much thanks to Grant Gould for posting about Upper Deck’s open call in the first place!
Tuesday December 4, 2007 · Panels & Pages art show

Hey gang!
If you missed seeing my original comic pages at the UW-Green Bay Lawton Gallery comic art show this past fall, you can get to see them at the Borg Ward Art Collective in Milwaukee this month!
The show runs from Dec 7 to Jan 2. The gallery opening is this Friday, 6pm — ignore the time stated in the flyer above, ‘cause the gallery actually starts opening at 6pm, and you wouldn’t want to miss a beat, would you? (*grin*) Oh, speaking of which, give a hand to my friend Jason for great work on the flyer!
I won’t be able to attend, but there’s going to be bands and music, so go and have fun on my behalf!
Saturday November 10, 2007 · New postcards in the shop!
![]() | I’ve added some new items to the Shop! For $4 for 6, or $6 for 10, you can get postcards of the delectable Hugo & Bana and/or sassy Medusa. These postcards truly are quite yummy — full-color glossy on one side, and blank on the other so you can write to your friends! Or you can just keep them for yourselves, as a sort of miniature print (aren’t they scrumptious?). | ![]() |
Tuesday September 25, 2007 · Open Art Studios reception at Overture Center
Hey all!
The gallery Reception Night for the Madison Open Art Studios is this Friday, Sept 28! It takes place at the Overture Center, from 5:00 to 9:00pm, and features artwork from all participating artists. There’ll be artwork by artists hanging on all three floors (my piece is hanging on the first floor, hint hint). On the 2nd floor will be hors d’oeuvres, a silent auction, and a raffle (a chance for you to win some artwork!)
Even if you can’t make it on Friday, you’ll be able to view all the artwork at the Overture Center anytime until October 12. I went to take a quick look on Monday, and the variety and quality of pieces there is exquisite. These are artwork by local artists, so definitely come out to chat and support!
If you find any you like and would like to see more of their work, mark their names down. Then pick up a map at the Overture Center to find out where their studio is. You’ll be able to visit them on Open Art Studio weekend on October 6 and 7, when they open up their studios to the public.
Looking forward to seeing you there!
Thursday August 30, 2007 · Cheap Thrills & Open Art Studios art show details!
September and October are months chockful of art!
Cheap Thrills: 20 Comix Artists from Wisconsin
Sept. 13 – Oct. 4, 2007 – Lawton Gallery, UW-Green Bay
Opening Reception: Thursday, Sept. 13, 4:30-6:30pm
Tea Krulos, the guest curator, will talk about the exhibit at 5:00pm
I will have five pieces of original comic artwork displayed at the above show, which takes place at the Lawton Gallery, located at the University of Wisconsin-Green Bay, Theatre Hall building, Room 230, 2420 Nicolet Drive, Green Bay.
I won’t be able to make the reception, but if you’re in the area, you really should go over and check out the display, if only to see what my original Bitters Past pages look like!
And the other art show:
Open Art Studios: An Annual Madison Area Event
Sept. 24 – Oct. 12, 2007 – Artwork featured at the Overture Center
Opening Reception: Friday, Sept. 28, 5:00-9:00pm
Madison Gallery Night: Friday, Oct. 5
Open Art Studio, in which artists open their studios to the public: Saturday, Oct. 6, 11:00am-5:00pm, & Sunday, Oct. 7, 12:00-5:00pm
This is a major event, in which you not only get to enjoy hors d’ouevres on Reception Night, you also get to bid on silent auctions and raffles for original artwork by artists all over the city (including moi). I’ll have one piece for the raffle and another piece hanging at the Overture Center for the duration of the show.
But that’s not all! On the weekend of Oct. 6-7, participating artists open up their studios to the public, which means you get to visit and see how they work (including, yes, moi!). Maps to all the studios will be distributed throughout the month, including at the reception and Madison Gallery Night. The Isthmus will also have a copy of the map in a 2-page spread that week, and there’s an online map here. Come visit me and see how I work!
At the end of September, I’ll be at the Dane County Farmers’ Market and local library to promote MAOAS, as well as create art for onlookers. You’ll be able to come over, chat, and see us make art for you. I’ll have more details later — it’s pretty exciting!
